This talk will compare the work and careers of the Nigerian apala singer Haruna Ishola (1919-1983) and the Cuban devotional Santeria singer Lazaro Ros (1925-2005) as two embodiments of what might be referred to as “pan-Yoruba musical identity,” in the recording age.
