The Center for Jazz Studies will host a day-long symposium focusing on the impact gender has had on the way we think about, discuss, and perform jazz. Roundtable panels feature distinguished scholars Rebeca Muñoz Garcia, Tammy Kernodle, Kelsey Klotz, Sherrie Tucker, and Christi Jay Wells as well as renowned professional musicians Sasha Berliner, Courtney Bryan, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Sumi Tonooka. The symposium will conclude with a keynote presentation, “Jazz in the World: Gender Justice is Global Justice,” by University of California professor emerita Angela Davis.
You can find the biographies of the symposium participants here.
This event is free and open to everyone but registration is required.
